Song of the week

Embracing accusations by Shane and Shane

Work out hours

In Champaign, one of the health clubs is open from 5 am. I have seen people coming to work out before they go to work.

Champaing and Urbana folks are very dedicated and know that without work out daily they cannot do any work so they excercize.

In our Christian circle, there are not many worship places that are open from 5 am every day.

We know how to take care of our bodies but we do not feed on the bread of life, Jesus.

Let's pray that we can eat the word of God by God's grace and pray that we can be transformed by the word of God through his Spirit working for us.

John 6:26-27 is our Lord Jesus encouragement for us to feed on his word that gives eternal life.

Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval."
We thank God for his saving grace and for his bread from heaven.

Gospeling

Jesus the Bread of Life

Welcome back.

Deeper Roots in Christ.

We will study who Jesus is based on the gospel of John.

Today's message was based on John 6. Jesus is the bread that came down from heaven.

Here is the message.

Let's pray for the work of God here at U of I.

Happy new Spring Semester 2010 at U of I

This is the first day of school. At the Union there were so many fun activities. You can take pictures of you at the photo booth. See the sample picture I took at the Union.

We will learn about who Jesus is from the gospel of John.

In particular, we want to study who Jesus was based on 7 I am statements of Jesus. Here is the tentative plan.

Intentional devotional life

JR Vassar, Pastor of The Apostle's Church NYC gave several useful advices on how to be intentional on our daily devotion.

Here is the link.

My favorite section:
Don't give up. I have missed meals in the past, but never gave up on eating. I just made sure I did not miss the next meal (and usually made up for it). You are going to miss days, often times multiple days. Repent of your neglect of God and press on in knowing him. Your righteousness is not in how consistent your devotional life is; it is in Jesus Christ who is constant and ever faithful. So, relax and pick up where you left off.

Laying down your life for Jesus

Steve Timmis, Western Europe Acts 29 Director, recently posted a series of tweets on laying down your life for Jesus and the gospel and we wanted to share them with you:

  • How can I be sure I would lay down my life for sake of Jesus & the gospel? Perhaps I’ll be like Peter in his bravado and subsequent denial?
  • Can’t ultimately be sure until I’m called on to do so. But there are indicators in what I am reluctant to give up…
  • If I’m not prepared to give up my bed to go and serve someone, I can be fairly confident I won’t give up my life…
  • If I refuse to give up a holiday abroad so I can support someone in gospel ministry, I can be fairly confident I won’t give up my life…
  • If I’m not willing to pursue people who are different from me in order to bless them, I can be fairly certain I won’t give up my life…
  • If I’m not prepared to miss out on promotion so I can stay & help plant churches, I can be fairly certain I won’t give up my life…
  • If I’m not prepared to jeopardise a friendship so that I can tell others about Christ, I can be fairly certain I won’t give up my life.
  • “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” Jesus Christ

Where are you on your life of journey?

Where would you like to be on your spiritual journey in six months to a year?

What is standing betwee you and that point?

What will take for you to move beyond these barriers?

Richard Underwood

The Underwoods came to Korea when Korea was still a hermit country. Richard Underwood, a great and great son of Horace Underwood who was the first missionary family to come to Korea resides in Urbana, IL, home of the University of Illinois.

last Winter, he gave us a lecture on the early American missionaries to Korea.

Here is an article about him in one of the local news papers.

We owe to the Underwoods and their labor of love. We are the direct recipients of their Gospel preaching mission to us. If you want to explore here are several links.

Song of the week

He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." (Rev 21:5)

Here is the song of the week -When the Saints are marching in.

2. Joe Jung -Shrinking the Gospel by pretending and performing
3. John Jeong -Believing the Gospel

Pray for them and for us to grow as Gospel workers.. May God help us to articulate the Gospel in our own context and in every aspect of our lives.

Dave Fitch and the leadership team @ Life on the Vine in Chicago are experimenting with planting churches via Missional Orders. He describes the rationale and motivation in this 15 minute video shot @ the Cultivate Gathering at The Freeway in Hamilton, ON. (Dave went to High School in Hamilton and has a great love for the city.) Pernell Goodyear, the team leader @ The Freeway, introduces Dave.

Main Bible story lines by Graeme Goldsworthy

According to Plan (which is my favorite book): The Unfolding Revelation of God in the Bible, Graeme Goldsworthy provides some helpful “hooks” for the main developments in the biblical story of redemptive history. Here are his divisions put into a chart. (Courtesy of Justin Taylor from the Gospel Coaliton blog).

10 questions to consider this year

Don Whitney, author of Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian life, has ten good questions to ask at the start of the new year:

1. What's one thing you could do this year to increase your enjoyment of God?

2. What's the most humanly impossible thing you will ask God to do this year?

3. What's the single most important thing you could do to improve the quality of your family life this year?

4. In which spiritual discipline do you most want to make progress this year, and what will you do about it?

5. What is the single biggest time-waster in your life, and what will you do about it this year?

6. What is the most helpful new way you could strengthen your church?

7. For whose salvation will you pray most fervently this year?

8. What's the most important way you will, by God's grace, try to make this year different from last year?

9. What one thing could you do to improve your prayer life this year?

10. What single thing that you plan to do this year will matter most in ten years? In eternity?
